MATT SORUM Blasts Media For 'Negative And Disrespectful' Coverage Of WHITNEY HOUSTON's Death
February 15, 2012Former GUNS N' ROSES and current VELVET REVOLVER drummer Matt Sorum has blasted the media for its coverage of Whitney Houston's untimely death, criticizing the celebrity news web site TMZ.com for its "negative and disrespectful" articles which "make money" off other people's "struggles."
Writing on his Twitter profile on February 13, Sorum said, "Let's try not bashing artists like Whitney, Michael [Jackson], Amy [Winehouse] while they are alive. These were sensitive artists in the public eye. You wouldn't understand their pressure unless you were in their shoes. Not everyone can handle pain in the real world. Pressure mounted with fear is the most scary feeling ever. On a much smaller level than these artsits, I have felt it and used drugs to numb them. Luckily, I got help and people helped me. Let's love one another and help one another."
The next day, Sorum wrote, "Just ran into TMZ coming out of the doctor and gave them a piece of my mind. They asked me questions about Whitney and I told them they are part of the problem. Negative and disrespectful. I overheard one of them saying they were making a lot of money off pictures of her. I told them I am appalled and angry. We need to take a look at the negative press and bashing our national treasures while they are here. Everyone has struggles, but now there are TV shows to promote them and make money off of their struggles. It's wrong. These sensitive artists are dropping [like[ flies. We need to address this now!"
